YouTube, after almost four years, is focused to close its dedicated gaming portal and thereby merging it with the main platform. This move was mainly announced by it in the late last year. But, it missed the original March shutdown date.
On May 30th, YouTube Gaming will cease to exist, and so, all the visitors will continue to get directed to a completely new channel for the games instead of the main YouTube site. Also, the app will shut down.
YouTube clears in the announcement on its Google support pages that sending the visitors to the main platform would make it much easier for the gaming fans to connect. The company said –
“We want to continue to build a stronger home for the gaming community that thrives on YouTube, not just the YouTube Gaming app.”
Generally, for any of the content, the YouTube Gaming visitors may have particularly viewed or saved over the years which they are out of luck. YouTube also says that it is not possible to do the transfer of the games which are already saved in the gaming platform of YouTube i.e. YouTube Gaming. They also suggest that the subscribers can also combine their YouTube Gaming and also normal YouTube subscriptions.
Luke of kwingsletsplays, who is a famous YouTube Gaming user mainly, features the gaming walkthroughs. It has mainly partnered with YouTube since the year 2009. He also talks about the benefits gained by his channel from the standalone site and also worries that these particular changes will lead most of the gamers to get lost in the shuffle.
Luke also wrote –
“The new hub [doesn’t have] a wide variety of games and genres, instead, it focuses on trending videos on Fortnite or your personal watch history. It’s not a place where gamers can search for what games they are interested in and the channels that cover them.”
Mainly, in response to the most popular live-streaming platforms such as Twitch, there was the arrival of YouTube Gaming in the year of 2015. Again, this dedicated site possesses a completely different look and feel from the rest of YouTube. Also, it mainly caters to PC and console fans. Many of the attempts were also made by the particular site to put the spotlight on new and rising personalities. It often experimented with the new features. Their videos were also highlighted across the site by the recommendation algorithms of YouTube. This finally led to most of the viewers to discover their work.
However, the live-streaming market is continued to dominate by Twitch which is in accordance with the data compiled by the game analytics company known as Newzoo. Near about 64,000 users are seen by the Amazon-owned platform which helps in the generation of about 1.9 million hours of the live video content at the starting phase of the year whereas, during the same period, the YouTube Gaming possess around 22,000 users who produced around 460,000 hours of content.
