In 18 to 24 months, we will be in a position to open satellite phones service for citizens in a phased manner

Distribution of satellite phones will be divided into two phases, in the first phase all agencies fall under the roof of government will get its access, and in the second phase these satellite mobile phones will be introduced to citizens in India.

According to The Economic Times, Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said;

Agencies handling disasters, state police, railways, Border Security Force(BSF) and other government agencies will be given the phones in the first phase.
Satellite phone or satphone directly connects you with the orbiting satellites instead of regular terrestrial telecomm towers. You can perform all the actions you usually do using your regular mobile phones.

One important thing about satellite phone is that it never lets you get disconnected from rest of the world.

With the launch of satellite phones, BSNL will try to bridge remote areas where mobile networks are poor. To accomplish it, BSNL will get help from 14 satellites of INMARSAT.

Currently in India, Tata Communications Ltd is providing satellite phones under the license of Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL).

Launch of this Indian GSPS Gateway will provide a boost to our honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi’s “Digital India” initiative.

We must say, this is a revolutionary step taken by BSNL which will strengthen the communication system in India.
